November is here

November has almost arrived. I’m ready for NaNoWriMo. Notes made. A title thought up and about to start tomorrow.

Murderous Feet will soon be written. Yes, I must admit to some apprehension and panic that I haven’t done enough preparation and that maybe it’s too many words to write in a month. Daunting, but bring it on. I can only do my best.

The problem is the distraction. I now have two gerbils whom I adore. They keep playing when I’m trying to write which distracts me as I want to watch them but knowing I have to write. I must keep them to the back of my mind though. There aren’t any other distractions I don’t think. My carer is good about not disturbing me when I’m writing.

With all the notes written I shouldn’t suffer with writers block so that will be a help. At the same time I haven’t got so many notes that the story can’t tell itself. There is plenty of scope for change as I get into it.

The one problem is I haven’t got a list of suspects I only know who the murderer is and why. I hope the characters will invent themselves but if not I will be stuck.

It will be my first murder mystery so that’s exciting as well. I’ll have to see how I manage but I have planned other books in a series about the same main characters who will be the sleuths. I don’t want to give too much away here or you won’t want to read the book when I finish and edit it.

To reach the 50,000 word mark in a month I will have to write 1,667 words a day so it should be manageable. I aim to write 2,000 words a day normally anyway so I don’t know why panic is setting in. Maybe because there is a goal to aim for and it seems so much. Also when I start a new writing project I always feel a bit daunted and wonder how I can find so many words to make a full length novel.

I finished my latest novel and have been doing a lot of editing the last couple of weeks as it would have been stupid to start something new when November was just around the corner when I would be starting my NaNoWriMo project. I am looking forward to starting a new writing project. I’ll spend more time today reading through my notes and notes I’ve made after reading up how to write a murder mystery. It should keep me on track as it makes it clear what should be written in each chapter. Hopefully I can’t go wrong but I know my tendency is to give too much a way too soon in my stories and I don’t want the reader to realise too soon what is happening as the reader will start getting bored and not want to read the rest of the book.

Anyway here goes so wish me luck as I start tomorro
